CITY OF SEVEN HILLS

Rome is known as the City Of Seven Hills.The seven hills of rome east of the river tiber from the geographical heart of the rome within the walls of the city.The vatican hill lying in the northwest of the tiber,The pincian hill lying to the north and the janiculum hill lying to the west are not counted among the traditional seven hills.And the seven hills are Aventine hill,Caelian hill,Capitoline hill,Esquiline hill,Palatine hill,Quirinal hill,Viminal hill,of the seven hills of current rome ,five(the Aventine,Caelian,Esqiline,Quirinal,Viminal hills)are populated with monuments,buildings,and parks.The Capitoline hill now hosts rome's city halls,and palatine hill belongs to the main archaeological area.The vatican sits on one side of the tiber river,facing the Seven Hills.
First was the palatine hill,where according to the legend,the first king of rome romolo founded the city on april 21st 753 B.C.The number seven is significant in roman culture not only for seven kings  of roman,but also for the seven hills of the rome upon which the eternal city was built.

PILLARS OF HERCULES-GIBRALTAR
