CITY OF PALACES

Kolkata the "CITY OF PALACES" was the capital of the british empire up to 1911.It was at one time, the industrial,cultural,and the intellectual of the country.As the retaliation for being the nucleus of the first mass movement of the raj,which reversed curzon's move to partition bengal,the city lost its status.This teaming inland port the city of more than 10 million is now the capital of west bengal.Kolkata has the reputation of india's more vibrant metropolis.I t is regarded has india's cultured capital.Among many other proud destination the city has produced to the nobel laureates Ronald ross,rabindranath tagore,c.v.raman,mother teresa,gunter grass,amartya sen.Located at the tip of the frawling ganges delta which flows into the bay of bengal.The city hugs the eastern bank of the massive hoogly tributary.The howrah bridge which connects the mega city to an industrial township on the opposite bank is the signature landmark.The name of the kolkata is said to be derived from the name kalishetra or the seat of goddess kali.

Marble palace is one of the palaces in kolkata.It is a palatial 19th century mansion in north kolkata,it is one of the best preserved and most elegant houses of 19th century calcutta.The mansion is famous for its marble walls and floors,from which its name derives.
